The “Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa” is celebrated every month of August, for the whole month, Filipino people will celebrate the National Language Month, an annual celebration that highlights the very own Filipino language. The Department of Education (DepEd) and Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) will lead the 2014 celebration of “Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa.”
This year’s theme according to DepEd and KWF is “Filipino: Wika ng Pagkakaisa” (Filipino: Language of Unity). The celebration of “Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa” will highlights the linguistic and cultural activities of various institutions across the Philippines.
The month of August celebrated as “Buwan ng Wika” is pursuant to Proclamation 1041, which was signed by former Pres. Fidel V. Ramos. The former President was instrumental in declaring the annual celebration of the National Language Month every month of August.
The “Buwan ng Wika” celebration will also honor the former Pres. Manuel L. Quezon, considered as the Philippines’ Father of the National Language, who was born on August 19, 1878.
