Google Joins Facebook-Owned Image-Sharing Site Instagram

Google, the world’s largest search engine formally joined Facebook-owned image-sharing site, Instagram on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 (Philippine Time) featuring its Rubik’s Cube Doodle as its first entry.

Google launches its official Instagram page via its Twitter account. The Internet giant has already catered more than 24,000 followers as of posting.

The leading search engine which boasts an estimated of more than 1.5 billion unique visitors per month shared a snapped  of Google’s Doodle of the Rubik’s Cube. The hit retro puzzle celebrated its 40th anniversary on Monday, May 19, 2014.

In a report from The Next Web, Instagram, owned by Facebook has not stopped Google from “getting in on the photo-sharing action.” Google’s Google+ trails the world’s most popular social networking site  in terms of number of users.

“Google joked that celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Rubik’s Cube got it thinking that it could do with more squares,” the report added.

Google’s official Instagram account is expected to reach millions of followers on the photo-sharing site in due time. Google’s Twitter on the other hand has already reached more than 8.4 million followers.

The image-sharing site which was launched in October 2010 was acquired by Facebook in April 2012 with a whooping $1 billion. Instagram gears up with more than 200 monthly visitors.
