Marcel Kahn became a household name after his image showed up on the Los Angeles Times and his friend tweeted and posted his picture calling him a “Filipino hero,” describing how he was able to helped lead students to a safe room during the incident.
The Makati-born Marcel Kahn was instrumental in taking the students to a safe place during the shooting spree made by the 23-year-old John Zawahri who was believed to have killed his father and brother in their home before burning down the house.
Although Marcel Kahn gave credit to the library’s lead (–foul word(s) removed–)istant who had keys to the safe room but many believed that he was the one who made the initiative to guide the students as he was also familiar with the place for he worked at the Sta. Monica City College Library.
During the incident a total of six people have died including the suspect, who was shot by the police at the college’s library. Meanwhile the Philippine Consulate in Los Angeles is closely monitoring the incident for any involvement of Filipinos. There are at least 500 Filipinos in Sta. Monica City College who has a population of 30,000 residents.
