The Philippine Men’s Basketball Team will take full advantage of the 16-team draw for the FIBA Asia Championship groupings this coming Thursday. As the host of the highly-anticipated basketball match, the team will be given the privilege to choose which group it wants to join.
In a news report by Joaquin Henson of the Philippine Star, based on the instructions issed by FIBA-Asia Secretary General Hagop Khajirian of Lebanon, the draw will be for the 15 teams, keeping the Philippines out of the draw process.
The FIBA Asia Championship draw will be held at the Centennial Hall of the Manila Hotel on Thursday. The draw is composed of three teams per group which will make the draw of a total of 12 teams. The top 4 teams in Asia will be the basis of each group to prevent early clashes.
The Philippines will choose in which group they want to join in the 13th pick, the draw will continue to complete the tables. With the process, the Philippines can avoid the strongest group and will have a better chance of reaching the Top 3 of the championship.
