May 13 Election Day Declared as Special Non-Working Holiday

The Philippine government have already declared May 13, 2013 as a Special Public Holiday. The Palace has released Proclamation 571 on Monday, April 24, 2013. The election day is a a special non-working holiday in the entire Philippines to encourage more people to vote in the midterm poll.

The Philippines will have its midterm elections this May 13 2013, Monday. Unless otherwise provided by law, the 1987 Constitution mandates elections to be held on the second Monday of May. The May 2013 polls will be the fourth midterm elections under the present 1987 Charter.

President Benigno Aquino III signed the proclamation 571 as announced by Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda in a statement given to the press on Monday.
