A Barangay Captain caught the attentions of netizens after a photo of himself atop an endangered leatherback turtle went viral online. The photos was first posted on August 6, 2015 which sparked an outrage among netizens who saw the photos.
The viral photos was first posted by Barangay Captain Jose Lastimado showing a pictures of the Barangay captain atop a huge “pawikan” that was “accidentally caught” in Sta. Rita, Marabut, Samar.
The photo has already gone viral on social media with thousands of netizens shared the photo and made some harsh comments against the Barangay Captain. The photos posted online were also re-posted in various Facebook Page especially for those who were concerned about the endangered species.
Update: According to the Marine Wildlife Watch of the Philippines Facebook Page, the leatherback sea turtle has been returned to its habitat as posted on Saturday, August 8, 2015.
