The Gilas Pilipinas national squad made a strong statement on their last game in the FIBA World Cup 2014 Championship held in Spain by defeating powerhouse South African team Senegal, the same team that defeated European powerhouse Croatia.

The Philippines win is one of the momentous event in the country’s basketball history as the game ended in overtime, featuring an All Filipino line-up after naturalized NBA player Andray Blatche was fouled out in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Veteran national team member, Jimmy Alapag showcased his team leadership, as he scored with 18 points while PBA MVP is a huge revelation with his 15 points contribution aside from his crucial rebounds.
Although the Philippine team will not advance to the Round of 16 of the FIBA World Cup, the country they represents were all proud of their achievement after their four heartbreaking lost against powerhouse international teams.
