Here’s Disney’s Response To Scarlett Johansson’s ‘Black Widow’ Lawsuit
DISNEY – American actress Scarlett Johansson filed a lawsuit against Disney alleging that her contract was breached when her highly anticipated film ‘Black Widow was released on its streaming service. The company issued a brutal response to her lawsuit.
On Thursday, Marvel star Scarlett Johansson filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court that alleges Disney breaching her contract by releasing her superhero film ‘Black Widow’ on Disney Plus. The movie was released simultaneously on its streaming service and in theaters.
The suit claims broke an agreement between the American actress and Walt Disney Company. Johansson said making ‘Black Widow’ available on Disney+ at the same time it opened on theaters lowered box office revenue. The film had a long period of delays due to the coronavirus pandemic and it was finally released in theaters last July 9, 2021.
Now, Walt Disney Company has responded to news of the lawsuit filed by Scarlett Johansson over ‘Black Widow’s release on its streaming site. Based on a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the company clapped back at the actress slamming her breach of contract lawsuit.
“There is no merit whatsoever to this filing,” the company said in an unusually fiery statement. “The lawsuit is especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Disney has fully complied with Ms. Johansson’s contract.”

Walt Disney Company went on the state that Scarlett Johansson has already received 20 million dollars for her work and proclaim that the release of her movie on “Disney+ with Premier Access has significantly enhanced her ability to earn additional compensation on top of the $20M she has received to date.”
According to the report, Scarlett Johansson’s attorney John Berlinski said “It’s no secret that Disney is releasing films like Black Widow directly onto Disney+ to increase subscribers and thereby boost the company’s stock price — and that it’s hiding behind Covid-19 as a pretext to do so.”
“But ignoring the contracts of the artists responsible for the success of its films in furtherance of this short-sighted strategy violates their rights and we look forward to proving as much in court…”
“Surely not be the last case where Hollywood talent stands up to Disney and makes it clear that, whatever the company may pretend, it has a legal obligation to honor its contracts,” he added.
