Boxer Josie Gabuco Wins Philippines’ Fourth Gold Medal in SEA Games

Filipino amateur boxing champion Josie Gabuco captured the Philippines fourth overall medal in the Southeast Asian Games after he successfully defeated her Indonesian opponent in the finals of the Junior Flyweight in Myamar.

The 2011 SEA Games pinweight champion outpointed Indonesia’s bet Beatrix Suguro in the women’s Junior Flyweight category at 48kg in the Southeast Asian Games women’s boxing finals.

Josie Gabuco scored with 40-36 and 40-36 favor for her, while the other official scored with a tie at 33-38. The first place finish of Josie Gabuco is the fourth gold medal haul of the Philippine team in the 27th SEA Games. The other three gold medals was courtesy of the Philippine Wushu team.

Meanwhile Filipino boxer Nesty Petecio failed to win the gold medal as he was defeated by Thailand’s New Ni Oo. Although Petecio dominated the game but the officials awarded a majority decision in favor of Thailand with the judges school (38-38, 39-37, 39-37). 

The Philippine team in the Southeast Asian Games is currently placed eighth in medal standings as the host team continued its dominance in the overall medal tally of the SEA Games 2013.
