Zamboanga City Police Intercepted P20.32-M Worth of Smuggled Cigarettes
Authorities intercepted vehicles containing smuggled cigarettes worth P20.32 million in a series of police operation in Zamboanga City.
Smuggled cigarettes worth up to P20.32 million were seized in Zamboanga City, and three people were detained in separate operations over the last five days. The Zamboanga City Police Office seized 372 master cases of different brands of illegal cigarettes worth P13,020,000, according to the Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9).

According to the PRO-9 report, the police force intercepted a truck of smuggled cigarettes at a police checkpoint in the city’s Barangay San Roque, which was supposed to be transported to Zamboanga Sibugay, and raided its warehouse in the same barangay.
Benmark Sombillo y Coreg, 30, of Barangay Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay, and his parents Aldin Sabtal y Hadjiluddin, 29, single, of Maimbung, Sulu; Omar Juljani y Araji, 35, married, of Brgy. Kasanyangan, Zamboanga City; and Badi Abtang y Juani, 48, single, of Jolo, Sulu, were arrested.
Sherwina Joe-Alihuddin, of Brgy. San Roque, was the owner of the smuggled cigarettes, according to the report. The authorities are still working to apprehend the alleged smuggling leader.
