Most Wanted Fugitive In Cordillera Caught In Ifugao After 29 Years

CORDILLERA – The most wanted fugitive in the Cordillera region was recently captured in Ifugao after 29 years of hiding.

The director of Police Regional Office-Cordillera Brig. Gen.R’win Pagkalinawan reported that operatives of the Lagawe Municipal Police Station (MPS) caught James Bunay Humiwat, aged 53, at his hide-out at Sitio Bakkugan Pullan, Lagawe, Ifugao, according to Manila Bulletin.

Humiwat was the Most Wanted Person in the region with a reward of P140,000.

The suspect was apprehended by virtue of a warrant of arrest for multiple frustrated murder with no bail recommended which was issued by Judge Segundo B. Catral, presiding Judge of RTC, Branch 14, Lagawe, Ifugao.

There was also another arrest warrant against him for attempted murder with assault against a person in authority with a recommended bail of P30,000, which was issued by Judge Fernando F. Flor, Jr., presiding Judge of RTC, Branch 14, Lagawe, Ifugao.

Ifugao PNP Director David Mariano reported that Humiwat threw a grenade inside a store owned by Jose Singh at Poblacion South, Lagawe, Ifugao. This ended up in the wounding of six victims identified as Anna Valdez, Shermaliza Valdez Godoy, Lalaine Dornagon, Juliet Olsim Rapada, Jenekyn Quiano Bamba, and Ralph Dornagon. The incident occurred at January 11, 1992.

Humiwat was also accused of attempted murder with assault against a person in authority at Nayon, Lamut, Ifugao on April 13, 2000, based on the report.

“This accomplishment shouldn’t have been realized if not for the untiring efforts and quick action of our operatives in performing their sworn duty with emphasis on the participation and trust of the community in providing reliable information,”
