Students In Distance Learning Declining Says Teacher’s Group
DISTANCE LEARNING – Students participating in online classes and modular learning are declining says the Teacher’s Dignity Coalition.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, millions of students were forced to shift to online and modular learning formats. However, since its implementation, more and more students are failing to attend classes and pass modules.
According to the national chairperson of Teacher’s Dignity Coalition, Benjo Basas said out of 40 students 30 usually attend distance learning classes. But recently, Basas emphasized that the number of students that attend doesn’t even reach half.
Based on an article from ABS-CBN, the chairperson also stated: “Yung sumasagot sa modules lumiliit na rin…At least nagpapasa pa pero yung iba di na talaga nagpapasa. Kung nagpapasa man ay napaka-limited na nung sagot dun sa modules”.
Basas explained that the decline of participating students stems from the government not conducting a dry-run of the new educational format. As such, both students and teachers were caught off-guard with the new system.
Meanwhile, the group said that it welcomed the government’s decision to postpone face-to-face classes in January. As per the article, Basas said “Ito ay dry run lamang supposedly pero nalalagay pa rin sa panganib ang ating teachers at mag-aaral“.
