Cayetano Apologizes To Duterte Following Meeting
CAYETANO APOLOGIZES TO DUTERTE – Former House Speaker and running-mate of President Duterte, Alan Peter Cayetano, apologized for his “misunderstanding”.
Last week, Cayetano, Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco, and President Duterte set up a meeting to discuss the issues regarding the House Speaker post. There, Cayetano said he would honor the gentleman’s agreement.
However, Cayetano then called out Velasco and boasted that he had a unanimous vote within the congress. Unfortunately, this was quickly disproved as Velasco had an outstanding 186 votes making, making him the new House Speaker.
Following this, Cayetano went live on Facebook and issued an apology to the President. During the live stream, Cayetano said:
Ang pagkakaalam ko talaga, I was to handle the budget and I was told until matapos ‘yung budget para waling disruption and I invited Congressman Velasco to join me…
Mr. President, if I made a mistake, mali ang reading ko, misunderstood ko na gusto mong ituloy at tapusin ko ang budget, ako’y humihingi ng paumanhin. Hindi ko intention—never—na hindi ka sundin
Furthermore, Cayetano reiterated that it was him who misunderstood the President. Additionally, he emphasized that the issues with the House Speakership was on him, “not on the President”.
