Metro Manila Mayors Push Lockdown Age Restriction Adjustments
LOCKDOWN AGE RESTRICTION ADJUSTMENTS – Protocols for those allowed to leave their homes amid lockdowns remained the same.
Under the previous rules, only those between 21-60 are allowed to go outside their homes to get supplies. However, the Metro Manila Council (MMC) proposed to change the current age restriction scheme to 18 to 65 years old.
Meanwhile, the MMC still proposed to keep the 10:00 PM curfew. However, MMC Chairman Edwin Olivarez recommends an adjustment in the age of those allowed to leave their homes.
During an interview with ABS-CBN’s Teleradyo, Olivarez said:
Sa pag-uusap po namin noong huli, kami po ay nag-usap, ang amin pong consensus ay i-maintain ‘yung curfew na 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Pero magkaroon po kami ng recommendation doon po sa adjustment noong ating mga persons to go out…
Kasi ngayon po, ‘yung ating persons to go out, ang edad nun is 21 to 60. Ang aming recommendation is baka pwedeng gawing 18 to 65 na po ‘yung mga tao na pwedeng lumabas.
Previously, the age restriction was imposed as the government wanted to keep minors and the elderly safe from the virus. However, there had been several complaints regarding age restrictions.
People working in a BPO company in between 18-21-years-old can’t go out. Obviously, this would become a major problem when it comes to getting income for their families. Now, with the new proposed adjustments, issues such as this could finally be addressed.
