Refund For P80 Beep Cards Pushed By Transport Sec.
REFUND FOR BEEP CARDS – The implementation of the automated and contactless payment system for busways had a bit of a fiasco.
Recently, the government suspended the mandatory use of Beep Cards in public transportation such as the EDSA busway. The quick shift in policy came after the massive outcry from commuters about issues with the card, its price, and the inconvenience it brought.
Naturally, commuters saw the implementation of Beep Cards as counter-intuitive to its original goal. As such, several compromises were made regarding the service.

Among these was the decision of AF Payments, Inc. (AFPI) to giveaway the Beep Cards for free. However, this begs the question “what about the others that already have the cards?”.

To address this, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade urged the AFPI and bus operators to settle the issue regarding refunds for the cost of the cards. Based on a report from ABS-CBN, Tugade stated:
May proseso ‘yan na pagkakasunduan ng service provider at bus operators. Dapat lang patakaran ‘yan dahil may kinuha kang amount, nakatanggap ka ng amount na hindi nagamit, kailangan ibalik.
Afterward, he emphasized that the process for the refund should also be discussed by the bus operators and service providers. Meanwhile, when it comes to the government intervening, Tugade said that if it’s needed for a fair and judicious process, then they could intervene on the issue.
