OVP Receives Lowest Budget For 2021 Despite Highest Audit Rating

OVP Office Receives Lowest Budget After Being Slashed By DBM

OVP RECEIVES LOWEST BUDGET – The Office of the Vice President’s proposed budget for 2021 was slashed despite having the highest audit rating from the Commission on Audit.

The Vice President’s budget was geared toward her pandemic response for the next year. Initially, the OVP proposed a P724 million fund which would be used for projects such as free shuttle services to heavily affected communities. However, this proposal was denied by the Department of Budget and Management.

Still, Vice President Leni Robredo said that her office would “make do of what is given” to them. Meanwhile, Robredo’s supporters called for as much as triple the budget for the OVP.

A former congresswoman from Camarines Sur personally appealed for lawmakers to at least meet her proposal of P724 million which was a slight increase in her P708 million budget for 2020. Meanwhile the DBM recommended a P679 million budget for her office in 2021.

According to an article from Inquirer, Baguio City Rep. Mark Go even stated that the OVP’s budget should be doubled or at least raised to P1 billion. Likewise, ACT Teachers Rep. France Castro emphasized that she supports giving the OVP double or triple her budget.

During Robredo’s public addresses, she proposed several plans to assist Filipinos in need amid the pandemic. These include several relief responses, as well as livelihood and education programs for those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
