The Gilas Pilipinas defeated the formerly undefeated team, Qatar on Tuesday night with the final score at 80-70 dominating the Qataris with their impressive team performance. The Philippines currently ranked second only behind Group E leader Chinese Taipei.

The Qataris rallied and cut a 23-point lead down to just 9 points at 74-65, with just 2:11 remaining during the final period but the Philippines was able to control the tempo of the game. Gabe Norwood came up with a pair of big defensive stops on naturalized star Jarvis Hayes of Qatar, Hayes managed to score just five points, including the three-pointers at the buzzer.
The Philippines current placings in team standings depends upon the Wednesday’s showdown of Gilas with Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei’s result with Qatar in the final showdown of the second round of the competition.
Japeth Aguilar performed an impressive performance against Qatar making some of the shots with a powerful slam dunks. Philippines naturalized center, Marcus Douthit got hurt midway through the final period but he was able to continue his presence with Gilas Pilipinas.
The Philippines made their second victory in the second round of FIBA Asia 2013 Championship.
