MERALCO – Meralco continued its operation amid the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) in Metro Manila.

Joe Zaldarriaga, spokesperson of Meralco said among their jobs include the meter reading activity as basis to release bills to its customers, according to a report from ABS-CBN News.

“Wala po tayong gagamiting estimated. Napaka-importante na makuha namin aktuwal na konsumo,”

However, he appealed to the local government units (LGUs) to let its employees do their meter reading activity.

“Nakikiusap kami sa mga LGUs down to the barangay level na huwag sanang harangin ‘yung mga meter readers natin. They are classified under the guidance of the Inter-Agency Task Force as essential workers in the energy sector,”

Zaldarriaga ensured that the staff are wearing their protective equipment for their, and the community’s safety.

“Rest assured na ‘di naman ito magiging panganib sa kanilang kalusugan. They will be in complete protective equipment, bearing in mind safety protocols para lang hindi sila mangamba,”

Based on the report, it has been remembered that consumers were surprised of the high price they had to pay after Meralco was unable to do its meter reading in the middle of a strict lockdown.
