PlayStation Launches “Play At Home” Gives Free Games Amid Quarantine
PLAY AT HOME – As the world continues to battle COVID-19, PlayStation gives away free games to encourage people to stay at home.
According to the majority of experts, staying at home is one of the most effective weapons against the virus right now. This is due to COVID-19 spreading through human-to-human transmission.
Luckily, PlayStation launched their “Play at Home” initiative as their way to help fight COVID-19. According to their website, the company stated:
We are deeply grateful to everyone practicing physical distancing and take our responsibility as a home entertainment platform seriously, so we are asking our community to continue supporting the safe choice and the need to Play At Home
PlayStation’s latest initiative incorporates two components:
- Providing Free games to help the PlayStation community entertained in the safety of their homes.
- Establish funds to help smaller independent game studios experiencing difficulties during the pandemic.
Furthermore, PlayStation had offered one of their most popular game, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey available for free for a limited time.
Through digital download, you could get the game starting from April 15 at 8:00 PM PDT through May 5, 2020 at 8:00 PM PDT. Moreover, once you had redeemed the games, they would be yours to keep.
Additionally, independent developers are being given some love by the people at PlayStation. They dubbed these small developers the “Soul of the Gaming Community”.
As such, the SIE developed a fund to support them amid the pandemic crisis. As per PlayStation’s statement, $10 million was earmarked to support independent development partners.
Lastly, Sony ended their announcement with this message:
During these days of physical distancing, fans have turned to gaming for moments of respite and enjoyment. At Sony Interactive Entertainment, we are privileged to bring this much-needed entertainment.
We know this is just one small step and we are thankful to be able to offer this support to our players, our communities, and our partners.
