South Korea Warns Retaliation To Japan Over “Irrational” Quarantine Plan
SOUTH KOREA WARNS RETALIATION – The outbreak of the new coronavirus had hit South Korea hard.
In lieu of this, Japan had planned to quarantine arrivals from South Korea. However, South Korea called this plan “irrational”.
According to an article from ABS-CBN, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced foreign nationals with travel history in China or South Korea are required to undergo a 14-day quarantine.
South Korea had confirmed over 6,000 coronavirus cases – the highest outside of China. This had already caused about 60 countries to impose travel bans or quarantine on arrivals.
However, Japan’s decision to quarantine those who came from South Korea had caused some issues. As per the report, South Korea’s presidential office expressed “strong regrets” and criticized Tokyo’s handling of the outbreak.
They stated that Tokyo’s outbreak control campaign was “opaque and passive”. This was in contrast to what South Korea describes as a “scientific and transparent” effort on their part.
Meanwhile, South Korea has faced criticisms as well for its decision not to ban all arrivals from China. Only those from Hubei are barred from entering the country.
The COVID-19 outbreak in South Korea can be traced back to a religious sect in Daegu. More than 90% of its cases are from the city.
Because of the outbreak, South Korea had been placed under RED ALERT, the highest level for infectious diseases. In addition, countries like the Philippines had imposed a temporary travel ban on parts of the country.
In Japan, around 360 cases of COVID-19 had been reported by health authorities. Along with this, 6 people have died due to the virus.
