AirAsia Increases Domestic Flights Amidst COVID-19 Outbreak
AIRASIA – Budget airlines AirAsia said that it adds more local flight destinations in an attempt to boost domestic tourism amid COVID-19 outbreak.
According to GMA News, at the same time, it aims to offset the impact of reduced international flights.
The airline’s CEO Ricky Isla said that the airline added two more domestic destinations this year aside from of the newly launched routes from General Santos and Zamboanga to Clark International Airport and vice versa.
Isla did not reveal the new destinations as talks with local governments were still ongoing.
“Our efforts, especially in the domestic scene, are in support of the Department Of Tourism’s push for a more vibrant local tourism,”
It expected around 25 to 30% in foregone revenue because of travel bans to and fro China, Hong Kong, Macau, and even South Korea amid the outbreak of Coronavirus disease 2019.
Due to its threat in the business, Isla said that it is fixating on domestic tourism as the most vital thing.
The airlines also said that it also lower its fares by 20 to 30% in order to urge local trqvelers to fly.
“People are afraid to travel so we are giving them low fares. We want people to afford to travel the domestic areas,”
As per the report, the airlines, which has four hubs, flies to Manila, Davao, Cebu, Kalibo, Tacloban, Tagbilaran, Puerto Princesa, and Clark.
Internationally, it has flights from Manila to Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Bangkok, Bali, Seoul, Taipei, Kaohsiung, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Macau and Ho Chi Minh City.
