The 23-year-old Tottenham Hotspur star player, posted offensive clips to his social media account mocking about an Asian man at the airport. It was shot on Thursday in a lounge at Heathrow as he waited with pals to board a flight to Dubai.
In the video, Dele films himself wear a face mask and bonnet cap with a caption saying “Corona whatttttt, please listen with volume.” A group of what are thought to be Chinese accents can be heard in the background as he moves his eyes from side to side.
Dele flips his camera filming an Asian-looking man waiting in the lounge. He then zooms in on the man, who is on his phone and does not realize it was being filmed.
In his second clip, he shows an antiseptic handwash bottle place on the table in front of him. He said to his caption: “This virus gunna have to be quicker than that to catch me.”
His videos spark outrage and earned criticisms from the netizens who have watched it. Many Asian people have reported a rise in racist remarks and attitudes against them since the virus first broke out in the Chinese city of Wuhan.
After the criticism and slamming of netizens, the English footballer apologized to the peoples who offended by his videos. He said: “I regret posting the video on my Snapchat and I immediately removed it when I realised that it may cause offense.
“This was never my intention at all. For anyone that was offended, I’d like to offer my sincerest apologies.” He added.
Asian people around the world uses social media to beg everyone to stop accusing them and referring them to the virus.
