Former NBA player Kobe Bryant dies in helicopter crash
Kobe Bryant, former National Basketball Association (NBA) player died in helicopter crash that happened in Calabasas, California.
He is among the popular names in the basketball league during his generation. He was drafted directly out of high school in 1996. 18 out of his 20 seasons, Kobe was named an All-Star for the Lakers. He also played a major role in leading the team to five championships.
Kobe Bryant is indeed one of the most admired players. That is why many were saddened upon learning his drastic death.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed in a Twitter post that the 41-year-old retired basketball player was among the passengers traveling onboard the helicopter on Sunday.
Based on the report from New York Times, five people were dead, with no survivors, in a the said helicopter crash. The investigation is still ongoing.
Furthermore, the NBA confirmed the death of Kobe and his daughter Gianna who was with him in the helicopter. The association sent confirmation of this sad news to all teams and league employees Sunday afternoon.
“In his 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers, he made history with raw talent and unparalleled dedication that raised the bar and paved the way for a newer generation of players. He was taken too soon and he will be missed,” Gov. Gavin Newsom of California and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, said in a statement that also cited Kobe’s charity work.
Based on the report, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be holding a news conference to discuss the helicopter crash, the unexpected incident that led to the death of Kobe Bryant.
