Bluefin tuna is considered one of the most expensive fishes in the world. It is served in high-end sushi restaurants. This kind of fish is in demand because of its delicious taste.
The best bluefin tuna is in Japan is widely considered the best in the world. It is also the country where all the high-end fish are auctioned. According to the World Wildlife Fund, the bluefins can live up to 40 years and the largest tuna.
Based on a report from CNN, a Japanese businessman bought a gigantic tuna that’s worth 1.8 million dollars during the New Year’s auction in Tokyo, Japan at Toyosu fish market on January 5. Kiyoshi Kimura a.k.a. “Tuna King” manages a restaurant chain ‘Sushi Zanmai.’ He spent 193 million yen ($1.8 million) for the 276-kilogram bluefin tuna.
It is not the first time Kimura purchased a costly fish for his restaurant. He paid $3.1 million for a 612-pound bluefin tuna at last year’s auction. He admitted that the fish was expensive but he’s happy of owning it in the first New Year auction of the new Reiwa era.
“Yes, this is expensive, isn’t it? I want our customers to eat very tasty ones this year too,” he said.
