122 Former NPA Members Start Over and Now Technical Skills Graduates

A total of 122 former communist-New People’s Army (NPA) rebels are now graduates of various technical skills extended to them by the government.

Former Filipino rebels have turned over a new leaf by graduating as skilled learners from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). A total of 122 former New People’s Army members and their dependents graduated

They have graduated and received their certificate on skills training like carpentry, auto mechanic, masonry, and welding. In the report of Manila Bulletin, they marched clad in a toga in a ceremony at the 58th Infantry Battalion headquarters in Claveria, Misamis Oriental last December 21, 2019.

During their graduation rite, TESDA also distributed their training allowance ranging from P1,000 to P2,400. The newly-graduates underwent training under the Special Skills Training Program of TESDA to equip them with skills and knowledge crucial for their goal to start over.

The free training was conducted under the Special Skills Training Program of TESDA to equip former rebels with the necessary skills to start anew, said by Miraluna N. Baje-Lopez, provincial director of TESDA-Misamis Oriental.

Lopez said the training was facilitated by the 58th IB in partnership with St. Gregory the Great Technical School Incorporated, MANA Millennium Technical School Incorporated, GPY Consultancy & Training Center Incorporated, Goodwill Technical Skills & Computer College Incorporated.

The benefits of the program also included free training and assessment, entrepreneurship training, allowance of P100 per day for the duration of the training, and toolkits.
