Philippine billiards icon Efren “Bata” Reyes is on his way to the semi-finals after he beats Punyawee Thongchai in a match held at the Manila Hotel tent this Wednesday, December 4.

According to the report of Inquirer.net, The 65-year-old cue master put together a pair of 20-points runs to assert his might over his opponent. Reyes took advantage of taking the first turn, racking up points to keep his opponent on catch-up mode early.

Reyes is also positive that he will miss his first gold at the SEA Games this year despite being a world champion in the billiards. According to him, the only gold medal at the SEA Games was missing him.

The victory sent Reyes to the semifinal and closer to what could be his first SEA Games gold.

Although there are times he was slowing down in his shot, he still quickly recovers and that’s reason why he is the winner. Reyes, though, apologized for being rusty, pointing to an aching right shoulder.

Reyes said in an interview, he promised to be better, as he moves on to the semifinal against Dinh-Nai Ngo of Vietnam, a bronze and silver medalist at the Three-Cushion World Cup. Reyes also said he will do everything possible to have the gold in the field of billiards.
