Philippine Information Agency Head Harold Clavite Leaves After Being Linked To Corruption

PHILIPPINE INFORMATION AGENCY HEAD – Harold Clavite confirmed his separation from the PIA in a Facebook post.

In the post, he said that he is looking forward to a less stressful private life. He also added that he would still be advocating for peace, good governance, and a more responsible citizenry.

However, Clavite did not give any clarification about the details of his split from the PIA. Clavite left the agency nearly three months since being linked to corruption.

In the post, the previous PIA head said that he gave up his career and life in the United States to serve his home country, the Philippines. Now he intends to go back to the United States to take care of his family.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar stated that the former Philippine Information Agency Head was being probed for allegations of corruption. Though, Clavite earlier said that his subordinates crafted these allegations against him.

He stated that his subordinates were engaged in irregularities involving millions of public funds. “They’re trying to find ways to stop me from filing these cases,” says the former PIA head.

The former PIA Head said that he was ready to file charges on June 2019 against some employees after discovering some unauthorized transactions. Clavite stated that he found out the Finance Management Division has been sending funds to the regional offices without his knowledge or approval.

According to the report, Communications Undersecretary Marvin Gatpayat confirmed that the PCOO has finished the investigation on Clavite. Although the investigation is over, the PCOO has yet to disclose the findings to the public.

Clavite also said that last year, a fact-finding committee he established found that there were hidden funds from previous years. He stated that the the funds involves millions of pesos.
