Former Moderator Say Youtube Makes Exceptions to Popular Creators
YOUTUBE – Ex-moderator of the video-sharing site Youtube said their lucrative influencers keep making money even after breaking the site’s rules.
The video-sharing site, Youtube, gained millions of viewers from different parts of the globe. Video creators became billionaires just by making interesting vlogs on the site.
Creators who break the rules of the site face some consequences like having their videos or channels stripped of ads or they remove the content entirely.
Based on a report from South China Morning Post, the Youtube moderators can’t delete content themselves unlike the moderators of Twitter and Facebook. Recently, a former moderator of the video-sharing site made some revelations.
It says that the most famous vloggers like Pew Die Pie, Steven Crowder, and Logan Paul were given special treatment when breaking Youtube’s guidelines since they attract millions of viewers and bring the most money to the company.
According to the report, the accusations were all denied by Youtube saying they treat their video creators equally. The ex-moderator said when they recommend stripping the ads made by a Youtube star that violated a rule, the higher-ups of the site overruled their decision.
The spokesman of the video-sharing site, Alex Joseph, reacted to the accusations saying the company initiated a ”systematic review of our policies to make sure we’re drawing the line in the right place. We apply these policies consistently, regardless of who a creator is.”
Based on the report, an ex-moderator from Texas expressed that she thought she was doing a good job in protecting the kids from malicious videos but realized she’s helping to protect the source of the site’s revenue.
“When I started this job I thought I’m going to help get bad content away from kids… Our responsibility was never to the creators or to the users – it was to the advertisers.”
