The Presence of Late President’s Daughter Considered By ADMU Student Council as “Mockery”

PRESENCE OF IRENE MARCOS – Irene Marcos appeared at the campus of Ateneo De Manila University during the launch of Arete Ampitheatre on April 7,2019.

Martial law victims have been resurfacing recently. Expressing their emotions towards the past incidents.

Ateneo’s Sanggunian met with their university’s administration and Arete Director to confirm the invitation of the late president’s daughter to the event on April 8, 2019. Irene Marcos was indeed invited.

ADMU’s Sanggunian expressed their dismay online through a twitter post on April 8.

Sanggunian nang mga Paaralang Loyola ng Ateneo De Manila or Sanggu demanded an apology and an explanation from the Arete administration.

Based on the article from ABS CBN News. In the article, the Sanggu released this statement on Monday:

“It (referring to Arete) is the university’s central space for creative, adaptive, and independent thinking – values that the Marcoses systematically destroyed during the darkest era in Philippine history.”

Sanngu considered the appearance of a Marcos at the same space where the “Dekada ’70” a polemical discourse against the fascist-authoritarian regime and “Desaparecidos”, a play depicting the struggles and abuses the Filipinos endured during the reign of Martial Law took place.

Sanggu, saying the invitation of Irene Marcos to the event was ironic, also referred to the action as “shameless obedience” and a “disrespect” to the ideals of Ateneo De Manila University.

They also said that it is like erasing the crimes allegedly committed during the time when the country was under Martial Law.

It was also stated in the Twitter post’s caption that the Ateneans will never forget the times of Martial Law and they will never move on from what has happened in the past. Not until “justice is served.” Even if the Marcos family insists to do so.

That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we get them.
