Alleged Illegal Arrest of Satur, Castro & Others Slammed By House Makabayan Bloc

House Makabayan Bloc lambasted the alleged illegal arrest of Satur Ocampo, France Castro, and over 70 others over human trafficking charges.

On Wednesday evening (November 28, 2018), Former Bayan Muna Representative Satur Ocampo and ACT Teachers Representative France Castro along with 70 others were arrested at Talaingod town in Davao del Norte.

The suspects are now facing kidnapping and human trafficking charges for transporting minors from the town of Talaingod.

On Thursday (November 29, 2018), Davao del Norte provincial police chief Senior Superintendent Ferlu Silvio revealed that Ocampo and Castro got arrested at a checkpoint in Barangay Sto Niño after coming from a humanitarian mission in the town.

Silvio said that the checkpoint was placed after receiving reports that a group of people from Talaingod were coming out.

Ocampo, Castro, and others were flagged down as they were leaving Talaingod during a checkpoint in Barangay Sto Niño.

The police chief said that vans contain minors aging 14 to 17-year-old and children from Bukidnon and North Cotabato.

“They are still being questioned to determine why they were traveling with the minors and what the minors are doing with them,” Silvio said.

The House Makabayan bloc condemns the illegal arrest of Satur Ocampo, France Castro, and other members of the national solidarity mission.

“It would be a blatant and outrageous lie to accuse progressive lawmaker and former public school teacher Castro, former solon, and peace advocate Ocampo, as well as the administrators of the Lumad school as child traffickers,” Makabayan said.

Makabayan was also called the member of House of Representatives to take action regarding the issue.
