Duterte Urges Filipino Catholics To Stop Going To Church, Build a Chapel in Homes Instead

DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte urged the Filipino Catholics to stop going to churches but build a chapel in their homes instead.

The majority of the Philippines’ population are Catholics and the 5th largest Christian country in the world. Every city has beautiful huge churches with some aging about a hundred years created by the Spaniards.

Religious Filipinos come in churches every Sunday with their whole family, friends or alone to hear the word of God.

There is a part of the mass where devotees give tithes or offerings for the church. Some believers preferred to give a gallant amount to their church.

Based on the report from ABS-CBN, President Duterte gave some remarks on the Catholic Church during his speech at the Davao City Water Supply Project groundbreaking.

He urged the people to stop going to churches but instead make their own chapels on their houses.

“Build a chapel in your own house and pray there… You don’t have to go to church,” he said.

Pres. Duterte stated that those people back in the days were old-fashioned and has no idea how people have innovated nowadays.

“What do they know about the world today?… How can people 3,000 years ago predict or project what is happening today?” he said.

He shared he actually have friends that are priests but he encourages the Catholic people not to give their money to their bishops.

According to the report, Pres. Duterte disclosed that some bishops allegedly asked for government’s support to provide them with service vehicles. He got mad because it is a corruption knowing the institutions of the church and state are separated.

He did not mention any bishops name but Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David felt affected and said his parents never taught him to steal.

Based on the report, he clarified about what he previously claimed that he does not believe in God. According to him, he believes in God but to a God who does not collect money from his people.
