The Department of Education had announced yesterday, Thursday, June 23, 2011 about the suspension of classes from pre-school to high school levels due to the bad weather condition brought about by tropical storm “Falcon.”
The announcement of the suspension of classes was announced by an authorized representative from the Department of Education in the National Capital Region. Director Elena Ruiz made the announcement during an interview with a local radio station DZBB.
Meanwhile the Commission on Higher Education have given the authority to the colleges and universities to decide whether to suspend or not suspend the classes.
According to the latest tweets from the official twitter account of the Department of Education. Here are some of the list of provinces and cities declaring suspension of classes:
- Meycauyan City Bulacan
- Angeles City, Pampanga
- Olongapo City
- Malolos City, Bulacan
- Cavite City
- Antipolo City
- Isabela and Cagayan
- Bataan, Zambales, Pangsinan
- Angono, Rizal
- Rosario and Bacoor Cavite
- Sta. Cruz, Laguna
Other parts of the country which was not affected by the tropical storm Falcon will continue its regular classes but the Department of Education had given the authorities to the local government units concerned for the suspension of classes.
The Department of Education had also released a revised guidelines on the suspension of classes due to bad weather and tropical storm. Here are the list of guidelines from the Department of Education:
- “When Signal No. 1 is raised by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical & Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), classes at the preschool level shall be automatically suspended in all public and private schools.
- When Signal No. 2 is raised, classes at the preschool, elementary, and secondary levels shall be automatically suspended in all public and private schools.
- When Signal No. 3 is raised, classes in all levels are automatically suspended.
The local government units will be responsible also for a possible suspension of classes when no storm signal was raised on a certain area. According to the latest bulletin from PAG-ASA, “Typhoon Falcon had a MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS: 85 KPH near the center GUSTINESS: up to 100 KPH MOVEMENT: North Northwest SPEED: 19 KPH.” The bulletin was issued at around 5:00 AM (Manila Time).
