Burial of the former dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos had been rejected by the President of the Philippines on Friday based on reports.
Benigno Aquino III, the country’s current president, did not allow Marcos to be buried in the Libingan ng mga Bayani also known as the cemetery for the national heroes located in the country’s capital, Manila.
On a press conference, the Presidential Spokesperson named Edwin Lacierda stated Pres Aquino is currently looking for all possible views in connection to the said issue. This will include considerations for the victims who suffered under his regime that even those who are under the human rights organization were also able to raise their views.
Etta Rosales being the Human Rights Chairperson declared that it seems to be an insult for them if the former strongman will be given a hero’s burial. As a martial law victim, Rosales described that Marcos made use of his authority to protect his own self while he tried to corrupt the minds of the military. She even called the former dictator to be a plunderer saying that he stole the nation’s wealth.
For her, Marcos is not worthy to have a military honor. With that, Rosales was pleased about Aquino’s final decision.
Lacierda added that since Aquino had already set his final recommendation, he does not necessarily need to check on the Marcos family given that their preference had already been identified.
Meanwhile, Vice President Jejomar Binay had submit a recommendation which considered that the former dictator must laid to rest in his home town in Ilocos Norte along with full military honors.
After all, the decision that will dominate will be that of Pres Aquino. The country’s current president ensures that his decision will favor the views of those from those who fight for the human rights.
