President Rodrigo Duterte might block the franchise renewal of the country’s largest network, ABS-CBN.
In an interview with the reporters on Thursday, April 27, 2017, Duterte lashed out against Kapamilya network and broadsheet, Philippine Daily Inquirer for “unfair coverage” dating back to the campaign period.
According to him, the television network (ABS-CBN) was supposed to air a political advertisement which was paid for by his campaign.
And when asked if he has plans to block the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN, he said, “Yes.”
“If ganoon ka kaano, you’re engaged in swindling for all we know ilang kompanya dito na hindi n’yo pinalabas. If you operate, ABS-CBN, tapos manloloko lang kayo ng tao, mag-swindling kayo, I have to stop you, ‘di ba?” Duterte noted.
President Duterte also lambasted the Philippine Daily Inquirer anew, particularly columnist John Nery, who’s also the editor-in-chief of Inquirer.net.
ABS-CBN and Philippine Daily Inquirer have yet to issue any statement regarding this report.
