Sanya Lopez did this preparation for her beauty queen role
Kapuso actress Sanya Lopez went all out in preparing for her role in the upcoming GMA Pictures satirical comedy film Red Crown.
Sanya has come a long way since she started as one of the cast members of the late-night variety show Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman, where she was discovered when she visited her brother, actor Jak Roberto, on the set.
She had her breakthrough role in Encantadia in 2016 as Hara Danaya. This was followed by more hit series, including his first titular role, First Yaya, which eventually had its sequel, First Lady.
Sanya Lopez also showcased her acting prowess in the historical war drama Pulang Araw in 2024. The Kapuso actress is set to prove her versatility with her upcoming movie.
Sanya will play Celine Macapagal, a seasoned pageant contestant, in a film centering on 25 candidates competing in the Queen of the Islands Philippines pageant, based on the article in GMA Entertainment.
From runway training to learning how to pose like a beauty queen, Sanya is grateful to have received tips from her co-stars, who are real-life Miss Universe Philippines titleholders, such as Michelle Marquez Dee, MJ Lastimosa, Ahtisa Manalo, and Gazini Ganados.
“It’s a healthy competition and, at the same time, nahihirapan ako mag-pose, so ang marunong si MMD, so gina-guide n’ya kami. Nand’yan din si MJ Lastimosa to guide us and, syempre, nand’yan pa yung ibang beauty queens pa natin, sila Ahtisa, Gazini,” the Kapuso actress said.
Red Crown became a topic of conversation due to a promotional campaign that convinced the public it was a genuine beauty pageant called “Queen of the Islands Philippines.”
Just like in a real beauty pageant, the film’s cast, comprising Sparkle artists and real-life beauty queens, underwent headshot and long-gown photoshoots, as well as runway training.
Photos and videos of the cast appearing as pageant candidates immediately went viral on social media. Red Crown will be shown in cinemas in October.
