Rodante Marcoleta spoke about the accusation against his wife
Senator Rodante Marcoleta reacted to the alleged connection of his wife, Edna Marcoleta, to contractor couple Curlee and Sarah Discaya.
The Discaya couple was accused of being involved in the anomalous flood control projects. Because of this, their lavish lifestyle was questioned, including their collection of luxury cars.
Marcoleta was previously accused of siding with the Discayas during the Senate inquiry on anomalous flood control projects. Some people pointed out that, with what he has been saying, it seemed that he was protecting the contractor couple.
In a recent interview, based on the report from DZRH,he denied his wife’s alleged connection to the Discayas. Reportedly, Edna Marcoleta is an executive director of Stronghold Corporation, an insurance company that allegedly handles the construction firms of Diacayas for bond insurance of the couple’s alleged ghost flood projects.
During the interview on DZRH’s Dos Por Dos, Sen. Rodante Marcoleta criticized the news outlet that reported on the issue. He also said that the news outlet’s branding is “bayaran.”
“Ang hina naman ng nag-research na iyon, diyan lang pinalilitaw talaga bayaran na ang mga media ngayon eh,” the Senator sad. “Hindi man lang nila tiningnan ‘yung aking asawa ay isang independent director. Hindi man lang nila ni-research kung ano ang ibig sabihin ng independent director,“ he added.
He also emphasized that his wife, Edna Marcoleta, serves solely as an independent director of the insurance company, which meant that she was not qualified under the rule of having relatives in the company.
Sen. Rodante Marcoleta emphasized that his wife’s duty was to protect the minority of the shareholders. He also said there were groups who had been trying to discredit him. “Yung objectivity ng pagpapasya pero kahit kailan wala kang pagmamay-ari doon. Wala kang kinalaman kung sino man ang may interes doon. Ganoon po ang independent director, he said.
