Barbie Hsu is remembered by her former co-star
Taiwanese actor Ken Chu shared these posts after news that actress Barbie Hsu passed away circulated.
Barbie and Ken were co-stars in the 2001 hit drama Meteor Garden, together with Jerry Yan, Vic Zhou, and Vanness Wu. In the series, which was based on a Japanese manga titled “Hana Yori Dango,” Barbie played the character of Shancai.
Her love interest was Dao Min Si, played by Jerry and the three other male characters were his friends who also came from wealthy clans.
These characters and the series in general became a hit in other Asian countries, as well as, the Philippines. Pinoy fans were saddened by the news that Barbie Hsu passed away. They expressed heartfelt messages for the late actress.
Ken Chu took to Instagram to remember his former co-star. Based on the article in GMA Entertainment, Ken shared a black image on his Instagram Story after Barbie’s death was confirmed. He followed this with a throwback photo of the Meteor Garden cast.
The throwback photo that Ken shared on his IG page in 2023 received recent comments from fans, including Filipinos. A Pinoy netizen commented, “I think everyone here in [the Philippines] is mourning coz of Barbie Hsu’s passing [broken heart emojis, loudly crying face emoji] Meteor Garden has been one of our childhood’s best memory.” Many fans also expressed sadness after hearing this news.
In his edited caption, Ken wrote, “Can you believe this series turns 22 this year? Feels like yesterday!”
Based on the report, Barbie Hsu died at the age of 48 due to complications from pneumonia. Her sister confirmed her death in Japan while on vacation. It was said that prior to the confirmation, rumors had circulated saying that a famous actress died in said country.
