The legal counsel of Darryl Yap released this statement after the court’s recent decision
Atty. Raymond Fortun, the legal counsel of director Darryl Yap, reacted to the court’s decision ordering his client to delete and take down the Pepsi Paloma movie teaser mentioning veteran showbiz personality Vic Sotto.
The Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court released a decision partially granting Vic’s petition for writ of habeas data. This came weeks after Direk Darryl Yap released the teaser of his movie The R@pists of Pepsi Paloma.
The director started the year 2025 with a bang with his movie promotion that caught the attention of the online community.
This prompted Vic Sotto to file 19 counts of cyber libel against him and the petition for writ of habeas data. The veteran comedian-host was favored by the court with the petition he filed.
His wife Pauleen Luna reacted to this through her Instagram post. She expressed happiness that the court favored her husband.
In a statement released by Vic’s legal counsel Atty. Enrique Dela Cruz Jr. said that they are thankful for the court’s decision, based on the report from ABS-CBN News. They are also hoping that Direk Darryl Yap will immediately take down the teasers on social media platforms.
Vic’s lawyer added that after this victory, they will now focus on the 19 cyber libel cases that the comedian filed against the filmmaker.
Regarding this court’s decision, Direk Darryl’s lawyer stated that they will not appeal the decision. “It allows the production and eventual release of the movie, with the content of the teaser being part of the movie,” Atty. Fortun said. He also said that they have nothing to add to this.
After the release of this court’s decision, Darryl Yap and the title of his movie became a trending topic on X, formerly Twitter. The Pepsi Paloma movie is set to be released on February 5.
