Annette Gozon shared this post amid the resurfacing of a past issue involving Gerald Santos
GMA senior vice president Annette Gozon-Valdes highlighted the criteria they are looking for when casting a celebrity and this received speculations that it is a “parinig” to singer-actor Gerald Santos.
Gerald emotionally revealed during the Senate hearing on August 19 that he was r@ped by a musical director when he was just 15 years old. Although he filed a complaint about this in 2010, it was just now that he found the courage to speak up.
He also shared that after his revelation, projects were not offered to him and this pushed him to ask the management to just release him if he wouldn’t be given any project. Eventually, he said that he was banned from appearing on GMA’s entertainment shows.
In a statement, GMA Network stressed that they took action regarding Gerald Santos’s complaint as they terminated the musical director. However, the network denied that Gerald was prevented from being part of any project and that he was not banned.
In a Facebook post, Annette Gozon-Valdes, “Sorry but we cast based on merit and audience appeal.” She received support from celebrities in the comment section who agreed with what she said.
The Kapuso executive also shared the article in which GMA directly answered Gerald’s statement. “We cast based on merit and performance,” the network stressed in that article.
Gozon’s Facebook post was shared on a popular showbiz site and garnered different reactions. Some agreed with what the Kapuso executive said but there were those who easily connected this to Gerald’s statement. A netizen said that it appeared that GMA was “shookt” by the recent issue while some pointed out that it was inappropriate for Annette Gozon-Valdes to share that post amid the issue. Here are some comments.
