Based on the article in The Philippine Star, Rachelle Joy Kabayao shared that she and her family had been waiting for three hours before Gerald Anderson and other rescuers arrived.

On X, formerly Twitter, Gerald’s name is among the trending topics. Netizens expressed their thoughts on his initiative to help. Here are some tweets about the actor.

Kabayao said that they first called the barangay at around 11 am but they weren’t able to contact the officials. Then, they tried again but there was no available boat at that time. It was around 1:30 pm when Gerald rescued them.

This is not the first time that the actor showed his readiness to help the people amid calamities. Back in 2009, when tropical storm Ondoy hit the Philippines, Gerald also bravely went out to flooded areas to help people evacuate.

The actor’s neighbor, Dr. Divine Rosales-Murao, shared in an interview 14 years ago that Gerald checked on them amid the strong typhoon. The doctor shared a photo of the actor swimming through the flooded streets to know the conditions of his neighbors.

Rosaled-Murao shared that Gerald knew that she had three kids and house staff. She told him that they were okay even though the flood water already reached the first floor of their house. “The second time he went back to us there, he was with Cesar Montano and Bayani Agbayani, plus others,” the doctor said. She told Gerald to check on his brother who was at Queensland Street.

“Gerald and his brother did their best to check how they can pass through the raging waters—using ropes and all—to see other neighbors who need help,” the doctor shared.
