2016 Rio Olympics Chinese Divers Engagement
Chinese Divers – A Chinese diver named Qin Kai took the gold medal for bravery when he knelt in front of fellow Chinese diver He Zi during the presentation of her silver medal win in the women’s 3-m springboard event in Rio 2016.
In an article by Telegraph, Qin Kai, 30, went towards He Zi, 25, after she stepped down the medal podium after being awarded with the silver medal last Sunday, August 14.
Qin, a bronze medal winner in the men’s 3-m synchronized springboard event, went on his knees and asked the ‘question’ while holding a small red box with the ring, and also a rose encased with glass.
He Zi was surprised with the marriage proposal because she didn’t know that she won’t just be winning a silver medal in the Rio Olympics, but also an engagement ring.
After nodding the sweetest yes, Qin slipped the ring to her six-year girlfriend. And the crowd then cheered for them.
“I didn’t know he would propose today,” said He as quoted by Time.
“I saw him during the afternoon and he seemed to be memorizing something, so I asked him ‘what are you doing?’ and he said he was singing,” she told reporters as quoted by Telegraph.
According to her, Qin said a lot of promises but, the thing that touched her the most is that she thinks that he is “the guy that she can trust for the rest of her life.”
This has been the second proposal witnessed at the 2016 Rio Olympics after Brazilian women’s rugby player Isadora Cerullo said ‘yes’ to her girlfriend Marjorie Enya after the medal ceremony of the sevens final between Australia and New Zealand.
What a lovely Olympics!
