Joey de Leon apologized to Miles Ocampo
Actress-host Miles Ocampo has this reaction to the “pataba” joke that Henyo Master Joey de Leon had about her.
To recall, Miles celebrated her 27th birthday on Eat Bulaga last May 1. She received birthday messages from other hosts and Tito Sotto said, “Pataas Miles!” referring to her age and referencing their usual banter in the segment Peraphy.
However, Joey jokingly said, “Pataba, ay pababa”. This did not sit well with netizens as for them, this was a form of body-shaming. The veteran comedian-host received negative reactions because of that.
In a recent interview for her new TV5 daytime TV series Padyak Princess, based on the article in Bandera, Miles Ocampo was asked about that joke from Joey de Leon.
She said that she is used to the way of throwing jokes at each other. “Sa Dabarkads, bawal ang pikon du’n. Sanay lang sa mga bawat banat at hirit ng isa’t isa, so walang problema po,” the actress-host said.
Miles also shared that Joey was affected by the negative comments and he wondered why people got angry at him when he was just referring to their segment in which they use “pataas, pababa”.
“Sabi ko kay Boss Joey, ‘okay na po ‘yun, sadyang ang mga tao talaga ngayon ay makabilis makahanap ng mali, kaya napupuna agad.’ Pero sabi ko, wala pong problema,” she said.
Miles Ocampo also said that Joey de Leon apologized to her the following day and there is no issue already. The actress also hoped that the bashing against the Henyo Master would stop.
When it comes to the bashing she receives because of her weight, the actress-host said that she does not mind the negativity anymore. “Hanggang sa dumating sa point na alam mo, wala naman akong magagawa. Nasa health ko ‘to at kung papaya man ako, tataba ako ulit. Kumbaga, nasa dosage rin po ng gamot ko,” she stressed.
