Pres. Duterte Consults PCCI on His Administration’s Economic Policy

This is the very first time that an incoming president of the Republic of the Philippines will make consultations with the business community even before he assumes office as Chief Executive. The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) is the first Filipino groups who will be given the opportunity to work with the Duterte administration for the economic policy of the national government.

According to PCCI Honororay Chairman and COO Donald Dee, this is the very first time that the President will consult the business sector before he officially assumes office, which is contrary to the previous reports by some bias media that Mayor Duterte is not in good terms with the business community.

The highly anticipated meeting and consultation between Pres. Duterte and his economic managers with the 300 business leaders from across the Philippines will be held on June 20 to 21 in Davao City. The meeting is dubbed “Sulong: Hakbang Patungo sa Kaunlaran.”

According to PCCI, the chamber is considered as the country’s biggest business group with more than 20,000 members and 130 local chapters spread from different cities, provincies and municipalities in the entire Philippines. The move of President Duterte to talk with the business sectors was welcomed by the communities of businessmen.

The PCCI Chairman Donald Dee was quoted as saying in an interview with the media that “Biruin mo ang unang ginawa niyang formal consultation, even before he assumes [office], is with the business community,” he said.

“This is an indication that Digong is very serious about his economic plans,” the PCCI chief noted. Digong is the President-elect’s nickname, his real name is Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the son of the former Governor of United Davao, Gov. Vicente Duterte, one of the closest ally of Pres. Ferdinand Marcos.

The summit will feature some of the brightest Filipinos in the business sectors. Incoming Finance chief Carlos Dominguez will present a 10-point economic agenda of Pres. Duterte emphasizing on “… the need to maintain accelerated economic growth while ensuring that the gains are broadly shared by the Filipino people.”
