Dream Bridge: Zubiri Pushes For Bridge Linking Negros, Panay And Guimaras

Zubiri pushes for the dream bridge that will connect Negros, Panay and Guimaras.

Senator-elect Juan Miguel Zubiri is pushing for the dream bridge that will connect the Negros, Panay and Guimaras Islands. The bridge has been a long-standing dream of people since then.

During a press conference in Bacolod City, Zubiri, who’s father was a Negrense, said that he will never stop pushing for the bridge.

“I will never stop fighting for the Negros-Guimaras-Iloilo bridges before the national government, especially with the Department of Budget and Management. You will hear me asking for that,” he was quoted by Philstar.

Zubiri also said that Korean, Japanese, and Chinese investors approached him to offer a fund for the project. He noted that the funds should not necessarily come from the government.

“It could be done not necessarily from our own funding but through public-private partnerships,” he added.

Zubiri said he visited Negros Occidental to thank the people for supporting him during the May 9 election. According to official and final vote counts, he got the second highest votes in the Negros Island Region (NIR) which is composed of Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental.

Meanwhile, the incoming senator also opened up about the Federal Government which is proposed by the incoming president Rodrigo Duterte. Zubiri said that the NIR can stand as a federal state because of its sugar industry and tourism.

It was earlier reported that Duterte is proposing a railway system that will connect the Negros Occidental and Negros Occidental. He also plans to build two international ports in the NIR.
