Samboy Lim aka “Skywalker” Dies At 61

The world of basketball bids goodbye to Samboy Lim

PBA legend Samboy Lim, also known as “Skywalker” died at the age of 61, which was confirmed by a statement on his Facebook page.

His “Skywalker” tag was given to him because of his signature high-flying play. Throughout his career, he was a four-time PBA All-Star and twice he became part of the Mythical Second Team Selection. He was also one of the players who brought the FIBA Asia Championship title to the Philippines in 1986.

Samboy was one of the legendary basketball players in the Philippine Basketball Association. He was known for his performance, which awed many basketball fans in the country. His legacy became an inspiration to many younger players.

On Saturday, the legendary player finally bid goodbye. In a Facebook post, it was stated that Samboy passed away peacefully.

“Today, December 23, 2023, our dearly beloved Samboy passed away peacefully. A man of Faith, exceptional courage, humility and grace. He embodied the very best of humanity. The Skywalker was 61,” the post stated.

Samboy Lim was confined at the Medical City and his loved ones had been there for him and taking care of him. The post also thanked the doctors and everyone at the hospital who took care of him for the last 9 years.

“Please pray for Samboy. He needs our prayers as we commend his soul to the loving arms of our Lord God. Please have mercy on Samboy and grant him everlasting peace. Amen Heaven gained an angel just in time for Christmas. We love you Samboy, thank you for loving all of us unconditionally … no more pain nor suffering! Goodbye for now …… you will be in our hearts forever,” the post added.

Samboy was survived by his wife Atty. Darlene Berberabe and their daughter Jamie, based on the article in PEP. Many netizens and basketball fans expressed sympathy for the family of Samboy Lim. As of this writing, Samboy’s cause of death is still undisclosed.
