The clashed between the NATO airstrike and the police in northern Afghanistan last Wednesday, lived 12 people dead and 83 more wounded. Afghans now protest the said tragedy and ask for justice to what happened to the victims.
Faiz Mohammad Tawhid, provincial spokesman claimed that bloodshed was started by armed protesters and said that some of the demonstrators turned to violence for their own goals. The demonstrations took place near the offices of a German provincial reconstruction team in Takhar province, north of Kabul.
Tawhai said that it was the armed protesters that opened fired on some demonstrators and security forces; they even threw grenades among the protesters and on the PRT. He also added that some civilians died in an exchange of fire between the protesters and security forces.
According to Takhar Governor Abdul Jabar Taqwa, they estimated that about 4,000 people joined the demonstration. One of the German Military has confirmed that two German soldiers and Four Afghan guards died in the clashed.
Reports claimed that the protest was caused by a Tuesday night attack that according to NATO killed four insurgents including two armed females.
In a statement, NATO said that a joint afghan-allied operation had planned to target the facilitator of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan last Tuesday. The Islamic movement was said to be an operative that heavily involved in the movement and procurement of weapons for imminent attacks.
But Farid Zaki, Deputy Governor defended and said the victims of the attack including a man, his wife and a guest are not linked to any insurgent. He said that they were just ordinary and innocent residents in the village.
On the other hand, president of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai released a statement condemning the NATO attacks and demanded to the commander of the group to give a detailed explanation about the attack. He also added that the government will investigate this incident.
