Gold Medalist Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz Opens Weightlifting Academy in Rizal
Filipina gold medalist weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz held a ground breaking ceremony to open weightlifting academy in Rizal.
Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo led the groundbreaking ceremony for the upcoming “HD Weightlifting Academy” in Jala-Jala, Rizal. She expressed that this academy will serve as her primary training facility as she prepares for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“This is just so important to me, as I prepare for the Paris 2024, I have a place to train together with the kids who dream to be in the national team, be a world champion and Olympic medalist,” she wrote.
Diaz-Naranjo eagerly anticipates the transformation of the temporary gym into a full-fledged training camp for preparing for the Paris Olympics within four months. She envisions it as a place where future weightlifting champions can hone their skills, based on the article of Push.
Her husband and coach, Julius Naranjo, mentioned that fulfilling Diaz’s dream to contribute to the sport of weightlifting and to their homeland, the Philippines, was paramount. Diaz clarified that the facility is not solely for her personal use but also a means of supporting young athletes who aspire to become Olympic medalists and world champions.
Named the HD Weightlifting Academy, the structure is a single-story bungalow spanning 108 square meters, situated on the property owned by Hidilyn and Julius Naranjo in Sitio Manggahan, Jala-Jala. Currently, the Olympian is intensifying her training with the goal of bringing home another medal for her country.
It can be recalled that Diaz fails to bag gold medal in Asian Games 2023 after falling to 4th place of weightlifting competition. Olympic weightlifter missed out on a medal by finishing in fourth place in the 59-kilogram division at the 19th Asian Games held in Xiaoshan Sports Center Gymnasium in Hangzhou, China.
