76ers Star Joel Embiid Fined By NBA Over “Crotch Chop” Gesture

NBA Star Joel Embiid Fined $35,000 for “Crotch Chop” Celebration Gesture

The National Basketball Association (NBA) has fined Philadelphia 76ers player Joel Embiid for “crotch chop” gesture.

The NBA has imposed a $35,000 fine on the current NBA MVP, Joel Embiid, for repeatedly making an obscene gesture during the Philadelphia 76ers’ 126-98 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. This incident took place with 2:14 left in the third quarter when Embiid scored a two-point basket and was fouled by Malcolm Brogdon.

The league’s executive vice president and head of basketball operations, Joe Dumars, announced the fine after Embiid performed four WWE-style crotch chops, which excited the crowd. This is not the first time Embiid has been fined for this particular celebration, as it has become a common response from him.

Earlier, the NBA fined him $25,000 for doing it against the Brooklyn Nets in January. It seems that the NBA has no plans to reduce penalties for the reigning MVP, and he may face more fines throughout the season as he continues to deliver impressive performances.

Embiid had the highest point total in the game with 35 points and also secured 15 rebounds, along with 7 assists, 6 blocks, and 2 steals for the Philadelphia 76ers. They now hold a 2-1 record, having narrowly lost their season opener to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Embiid is not set to play again until Thursday, and he will be joined by several new teammates. As the 2022-23 NBA MVP, he is a six-time All-Star and is currently averaging 31 points, 10.3 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 blocks per game.
