JRU Coach Hopes John Amores Shows “True Ability” after Being Picked in PBA Draft
The coach of the Jose Rizal University (JRU) is hoping that controversial basketball player John Amores will show his true ability in Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
JRU Coach Louie Gonzales has recognized the recent achievements of two of his former basketball players, one of whom is John Amores. Amores, who gained notoriety during the last NCAA season, was selected by Northport in the fifth round of the recent PBA Draft.
Gonzales expressed his happiness at Amores being chosen in the PBA Draft. Nevertheless, Gonzales emphasized that the term “redemption” doesn’t adequately capture Amores’ fresh start as he aspires to make a positive change in his career.
“Me personally, I can’t take the word ‘redemption’ for John. He made a mistake and he’s sorry for that but knowing John, he’s bigger than that,” said Gonzales.
“Right now, I wish him well and I hope he showcases the true ability of a John Amores,” he added, based on the article of Inquirer.
Meanwhile, After Amores was picked by the NorthPort Batang Pier, he revelead that he was nervous before his name was called to step onto the stage. He described feeling surprised and anxious throughout the process, from his arrival at the event to the moment he got drafted.
“Parang nagulat lang ako kasi kinakabahan pa kasi ako. Kahit naman yung pagpunta ko dito, kinakabahan ako kung matatawag ba ako o hindi,” he said.
“Parang excited ako na kinakabahan. Basta yun lang yung naramdaman ko,” the controversial forward added.
For Amores, the PBA represents an opportunity to make amends for his past actions. He has pledged to bring the same energy and toughness that he has always prided himself on, even prior to the unfortunate incident where he punched St. Benilde players during an NCAA Season 98 game.
