Herlene Budol Will Not Compete in Miss Tourism World Despite Winning Crown
Actress-beauty queen Herlene “Hipon” Budol will not represent the Philippines in Miss Tourism World despite winning the crown.
Herlene was crowned Miss Philippines Tourism at the recently concluded Miss Grand Philippines competition. The comedienne even creates a stir on social media with her sad expression when she gets crowned by 2022 Miss World Philippines-Tourism Justine Felizarta.
Following her crowning, many pageant fans predicted that she will be the country’s representative at the 2023 Miss Tourism World Pageant. Herlene has even stated that she will continue to employ her interpreter in the international beauty pageant.
That, however, is not the case. The Hiyas ng Pilipinas pageant released franchise certificates on its official Facebook page, including one for the London-based Miss Tourism World pageant, which the “Magandang Dilag” star was believed to be joining.
“Miss Grand didn’t mention that it’s Miss Tourism World , people are just the ones mentioning it. I’m not really sure where the confusion is. Insofar as the legalities are concerned, at Hiyas ng Pilipinas we have the grants, and we have the franchise licenses,” Hiyas ng Pilipinas Chairman Mike Sordilla said.
According to the article of Inquirer, before Sordilla acquired the Hiyas ng Pilipinas pageant earlier this year, the national organization already held the Miss Tourism World license and had crowned a representative in its maiden staging last year. However, Dean Dianne Balogal, the previous winner, moved to Australia to further her studies.
It provided the option for another organization to send a delegate, which the Miss World Philippines organization seized and nominated Felizarta as their runner-up. Sorilla noted that the winner of this year’s Hiyas ng Pilipinas pageant will definitely represent the Philippines in Miss Tourism World this year
